The role of Digitalisation in Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Development

Digitalisation affects everything in our societies and has a central role in advancing sustainable development to meet today's challenges. This course focuses on the great potential Digitalization has to drive development in partner countries and how it contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Digitalisation - a driver of change

Digitalisation drives a fundamental change in all sectors of society. The rapid evolution of digital technology leads to new opportunities for how we live, behave and work. Artificial intelligence, Internet of Things and using data as a resource are tools can help us face the world’s challenges and have great potential to accelerate the implementation of the Agenda 2030 and the  Sustainable Development Goals. Promoting the use of digitalization in partner countries creates better conditions for lifting people out of poverty and oppression.

 

Purpose

The main purpose of the course is to strengthen digital maturity in partner organizations that can drive digital development in low- and middle-income countries. It will also increase knowledge about the role of Digitalization in poverty alleviation and sustainable social development.

 

Learning Objectives:

After you have participated in the course:
  • You will be able to define Digitalization and describe its role in development cooperation and sustainable development
  • You will have explored the possibilities that Digitalization offers as a tool for social, economic and environmentally sustainable development.
  • You will be able to integrate the best practices of Digitalization in your organization's projects and programs.

Target group

The course is open to  government authorities, civil society organizations, a and private sector involved in development cooperation.
 
The course will not teach how to use digital tools.
 
 

Content:


The course consists of three modules:

 
  • Understanding Digitalisation  – what does it mean? About the concept, definition and its importance in development cooperation.
  • Digitalisation as a tool for social, economic and environmentally sustainable development in Sida's partner countries.
  • Enhancing effectiveness with digital principles; how digital tools can increase the effects in projects and programs within international development cooperation.

Location

The course is digital and takes places in Zoom. All participants should sit in their own room and have access to their own computer with a strong internet connection (you must be able to stream video). We recommend using headphones rather than computer audio to reduce microphone looping, background noise, and to generally improve the learning experience for all participants.
